Commissioned Oil Painting
I hope this finds all well at the end of our summer break . . .
One of my final parting gifts was this delightful oil painting by one of our former pupils. Sophie Birtwistle.
Phyllis, our Careers Adviser, commissioned Sophie to create a painting that would remind me of my time in Biggar High School, putting forward key ideas relating to careers and always having a positive vision for the future- which Sophie 'brought to life!’
For me it captures perfectly the essence of the importance of education in the world to our young people and, with particular reference to Biggar High School, the inspirational light of all staff involved in delivering a top quality experience to our pupils (as evidenced again in our latest set of strong SQA results) and the deep connections we have with our local community.
It will have pride of place at home and my sincere thanks to Sophie (and Phyllis) for their thoughtfulness and creativity.

Until Mrs Sim's arrival in September, school leadership will sit in the more than capable hands of Ms McFarlane; I look forward to following future Biggar High successes with keen, but distanced, interest and wish all in our school community an engaging and successful 2025/26.
